Frequently Asked Questions
How do I join PopVox Choir?
Once you have attended your free taster session we will send you a GoCardless link which will show you how to join. This direct debit can be cancelled at any point without charge should you change your mind. This payment system is a membership fee to be part of PopVox Choir rather than a weekly charge for rehearsals.
How many weeks do you rehearse?
We rehearse for 50 weeks of the year, taking our annual 2 week holiday over Christmas.
Do I have to audition or read music?
There are no auditions, solos or sight reading. We want you to feel relaxed and enjoy the experience of group singing.
Can anyone join?
We are an adult mixed choir and we welcome both men and women who are over 21 years old.
What sort of songs do you sing?
Our repertoire includes rock, pop and contemporary ballads and up tempo songs. We aim to vary each song so that we appeal to all of our members.
What do the fees cover?
The rehearsal fees cover the costs of paying the professional Choir Leaders; hiring the venues; performing licenses for all the songs that we use; copyright fees to the publishers; recording of backing tracks; maintenance of our website; business taxes and other administrative costs and general expenses incurred in the day to day running of a business.
Do I have to take part in the performances?
No, all performances are optional and you don’t need to take part. We just ask for you to inform your Choir Leader so that they know how many vocalists they will have on the day.
Do I have to pay to be part of the performances?
There is usually no cost to take part in a PopVox Choir performance however, you will have to pay for your own transport when necessary. We do offer unique and exceptional opportunities to perform at certain events such as Disneyland Paris and PopVox Workshops. These types of events are at an extra cost and you may be responsible for travel and accommodation if and when necessary.
Can I attend another choir if I’m not able to get to my usual session?
If you are unable to attend your usual choir rehearsal due to holiday/business then you are welcome to visit another PopVox choir run by a different Choir Leader by emailing info@popvoxchoir.co.uk to book. It is worth noting that they may be working on different material than what you are doing at your usual PopVox Choir.
